Now is the time to call your Senators. Yes, certain GOP senators are particularly critical, but honestly, call yours no matter who you are or where you live. This is about protecting Medicaid, the general healthcare infrastructure in this country, and also denying Trump a win so that GOP feels more compelled to boot him out. On every level, GOP attempts to repeal ACA must be fought.

And yes, even if you called before - call again.

Please help!

Hi, gang ... not sure how many people are still hanging around here but I'm kind of desperate so I figure it can't hurt.

Last Monday, I lost a temp job that was supposed to last another two months. It paid pretty well, but I was only just catching up with my bills when I had to spend about $700 on repairs on my car in the last couple of weeks. Which would have been fine, if the job hadn't suddenly ended out of nowhere.

I don't start my unemployment payments for another two weeks and I'm already behind on rent and my electric bill. I literally have nothing left in my bank account until then. I was going to try and save up or raise some money to take a few months after my temp job ended to try and make writing and podcasting my main job, but this sort of came out of nowhere, and the car stuff didn't help.

Anyway, if you can and would like to help in the short term, my PayPal is here. If you can, thank you SO MUCH.

I am so depressed it won't be picked up.

At first I wasn't that into it; I liked some of the performances and the lush design, but the story wasn't doing much for me. But now it's really hit its stride!

Sigh.

Only watch this movie if you're committed to sobbing uncontrollably through the final half hour.

Seriously, it's dated, but even 80 years later it packs a wallop. I can't think of any movie that's affected me this deeply where no one dies, is injured, or even placed in any kind of physical jeopardy.

Has anyone written anything comparing Imitation of Life (1934), Stella Dallas (1937), and Mildred Pierce (1945)? It's like the same story told three different ways, with slightly different shading. (Edit: It turns out there totally is analysis, not necessarily of these 3 films in particular, but the genre has a name: maternal melodrama!)

Also, I'm reminded - in the 1930s and 1940s, movies were about women. When did we lose that?

Hello! On my way to Vancouver/Seattle this Sunday (!), I will be having a nine-hour layover in SF, meaning I'll be able to be in the city pretty much from 11 to 4PM. I haven't been there since 2006 so I'd love to hang out downtown; if anyone wants to hang out please be in touch via any platform :-)

I just rewatched Batman Returns. Still in awe of Michelle Pfeiffer's performance. Honestly one of the greatest in superhero movies and for my money, in movies generally.

Here, have a Catwoman vid by [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny:

holy shit

Last night I was like, nah, you're seeing things, wishful thinking, etc, but after treatment #2? The cords really ARE shrinking, dramatically so.

"Stops progressing" would have been a good outcome. Actual reversal happens in a minority of cases, almost always in patients who treat it very early. I'm SO FUCKING GLAD I insisted on going as aggressive as possible. Even if I wind up with more chronic pain out of it, I'll keep use of my hands for a fuck of a lot longer, thank ANYTHING THAT WAS LISTENING
